Why Referee Appreciation Weekend?

Referees are the backbone of every soccer match, from youth leagues to elite tournaments. Without them, our sport simply wouldn’t function. Their job is challenging and often thankless. They make split-second decisions and manage the game’s flow, ensuring fairness and player safety.

Referee Appreciation Weekend is our chance to come together—players, parents, coaches, and fans—to show our respect and gratitude. It’s about more than just saying “thank you”; it’s about fostering a culture of positivity and respect that uplifts everyone involved in the game.

How You Can Get Involved:

• Social Media Shout-Outs: Share your favorite referee moments using #ThankYouRefs and tell us why you appreciate the referees in our community. Your posts could be featured in our official shout-outs throughout the weekend!
• In-Game Announcements: At every game leading up to the weekend, we’ll take a moment to publicly recognize the referees and give them the applause they deserve—especially at the end of each match!
• Special Recognition on September 28 & 29: Referees will be honored at each match with special acknowledgments from players, coaches, and spectators.
• Be a Positive Spectator: Show respect for referees by maintaining positive behavior on the touchline and giving them a big round of applause at the end of every match!
