Theona Andrews, standout player for Western WA Surf G12 Elite, has received an exclusive invitation to the Surf Select National ID Camp in San Diego, CA, taking place on Feb. 17-18, 2024. This exceptional opportunity at the National ID camp could lead to her selection for one of the Surf Select National teams for 2024, allowing her to compete in premier national and international tournaments.
Reflecting on her journey, Theona shares her enthusiasm: “I was so excited to join the Surf Select Northwest Regional team and represent Western Washington Surf SC in the Vegas Cup this year. I was able to meet a lot of great players from different Surf Clubs in Washington, Idaho, Montana and British Columbia. While I really enjoyed playing in the tournament, my favorite part was meeting my new teammates and coach, making new friends and having fun exploring Las Vegas. After I got home, I found out that I was invited to the Surf Select National ID camp for a chance to play for one of the Surf Select National teams. I’m really excited to head to San Diego in February to participate in camp and challenge myself against some of the best Surf players in the country!”
Her parents echo their daughter’s excitement: “We are thrilled for Theona to have this opportunity with the Surf Select Regional and National program.
It has been extremely encouraging to see Theona’s additional growth and development supported by this program. During the Regional tournament, Theona was pushed out of her comfort zone; playing with teammates she had never met and against high level competition. She has been physically and mentally challenged on and off the field and has received positive and constructive coaching that will benefit her development.
We are extremely thankful to her Western Washington Surf coaches and teammates and look forward to sharing more about this experience as Theona progresses through the program.”
